Assistant Professor

Computational Mathematics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SDSU has an open position in Computational Mathematics at the assistant professor level. Applicants must hold (i) a PhD in Applied or Computational Mathematics or a closely related field and (ii) a demonstrated strong record of independent research. The successful candidate is expected to perform research in the development and implementation of computational and applied mathematics methods to real-life applications. Research experience in multiscale algorithms developed at various scales (i.e. continuum, mesoscale, microscale, etc.) would be advantageous. The successful candidate will work closely with the members of the Nonlinear Dynamical Systems (NLDS) Group (http://nlds.sdsu.edu), researchers affiliated with the Computational Science Research Center (CSRC; http://www.csrc.sdsu.edu/), and external collaborators in applications to compelling problems in science and engineering.  We are looking at individuals with strong combination of applied mathematics and computing skills to work at the interface of realistic and state-of-the-art science and engineering problems.  To continue, select Computational Mathematics

Computational and Applied Algebra/ Combinatorics

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at SDSU invites applications for a tenure track position at the assistant professor level in computational/applied algebra/combinatorics. Exceptional candidates may be considered for higher rank. Candidates should have a Ph.D., a solid background in core areas of mathematics, a strong record of research accomplishments, experience in interdisciplinary collaboration, and potential for extramural funding. The area of research may be construed broadly to include, for example, algebraic geometry, number theory, multilinear algebra, group theory, graph theory, or lattice theory; however, there should be a computational or applied component. Of particular interest are algebraic statistics, graph and network theory, and mathematics of communication systems.  To continue, select Computational and Applied Algebra/ Combinatorics.

Statistics – Data Science

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Data Science, beginning in Fall 2018. Focused research areas include but are not limited to data analytics, computational statistics, statistical visualization, large-scale statistical analysis, and analysis of massive (big) data. Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics, Biostatistics, or a closely related field, and demonstrate excellent teaching skills and outstanding research potential. Preference may be given to candidates in the focused research areas described above and to those who would be able to augment or interact with existing groups within the Division of Statistics. Candidates should demonstrate the potential and commitment to seek extramural funding. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in our PhD program in Computational Statistics, as well as in our BS and MS programs in statistics and biostatistics.  To continue, select Statistics – Data Science.
