Putnam Exam results

According to Dr. Vadim Ponomarenko, “The William Lowell Putnam exam is the premiere mathematics competition for undergraduates in the United States and Canada.”  The seventy-fifth competition was held on December 6, 2014.  A total of 4320 students from 577 colleges and universities participated; the top three teams this year were from MIT, Harvard, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, respectively.

Vadim said, “SDSU was well-represented in this competition; we had three students successfully complete this extremely difficult exam”.  Congratulations to the SDSU candidates competing in the exam: Cassandra Smith, Jeremy Croman, and Matthew Walther.  Vadim adds that, “each year, a majority of the talented participants of this exam work bravely and hard yet do not manage to score points.”  Cassandra earned 10 points, which placed her tied for 1634.5th place nationally.  Jeremy earned 1 point, which placed him just above the median nationally.
